After scratching my head all week I could come up with nothing, no thanks to you all. We were hoping for some input, but maybe next time. So after more reflection I kept going back to classifications of the B1G states. Iron and Grain came to mind but I still don’t think we’d see those name instituted. Despite being geographical in nature I did like the idea of Big East/Big West suggested by the Marris Minute. It keeps the Big in the name and having a division named Big East would surely bring some delight to Delaney since he’s been after them for years because of Notre Dame.
So for the moment, humor me. Let’s go with Iron and Grain. Who would be in each division? My division breakdown is pretty similar to what the Marris Minute suggested, just a slight change.
Why? Money of course! The only reason Rutgers and Maryland were added was because of the conference big wigs to expand the Big Ten Network into the eastern markets. I don’t know a whole lot about the Rutgers/Maryland fan bases but I don’t think they are as nuts as the current Big 10 fans. I just don’t think the sentiment for buying the Big Ten Network so you don’t miss the Terps or Knights is that strong out there. I mean if they get the cable providers to buy it and just include it in the cable packages then I guess it doesn’t really matter if they watch it or not. If you couldn’t tell, I’m not a fan of this expansion and don’t want to see it happen again. However, it probably will. So who’s next Delaney?
Will there be 16 teams in 2016? If you’re going to keep expanding why don’t you come west to Colorado so my Comcast will pick up the BTN and I can finally watch the Hoosiers at home. Colorado might be a good pick up. Let’s face it, they don’t stand a chance right now in the PAC, because they suck. I know Delaney wants to get good football programs to make more money but Indiana/Purdue/Illinois vs Colorado might actually be a decent game ha! Why not try to steal West Virginia away from the SEC or Virgina/Virgina Tech from the ACC? Where does it end? If I had my way it would have ended after Nebraska.
Alright, enough of me ranting about Jim Delaney being a crook, those are my thoughts on what the divisions should look like come next year but who knows what Delaney will do. I hope you all have a great weekend! Be on the lookout for a Sunday Special edition of The Briefing. Take it easy everyone!
