The Marris Minute
|Those Sports Guys||
As she lay on the couch coughing and sneezing, under a Colts blanket, my wife Kathryn told me before the game she had a feeling that the Seahawks were going to win SuperBowl 48. I said that’s interesting, why do you think that Seattle will win? Her response – I don’t know how I know…I just know. Ten minutes later, the Seahawks scored the quickest points in NFL history on a miscommunication between Manning and the offense. The score read more like a Rockies – Mariners game, 2-0, but not for long. As the night progressed the game got ugly for those in Denver, and many in Indy, and the game was an amazing beat down for those in the upper northwest. Play after play Seattle shut down Manning and the Broncos.
At one point Kathryn asked if Peyton was getting confused and thinking the Seattle players were the Colts, and he forgot he was playing for Denver. “How could he miss his target that bad – they are all wearing bright orange!!” she exclaimed after a long pass down field landed on the turf and not in a set of Bronco hands. We all know, and trust me, Kathryn knows, that it is not that simple – but the frustration was mutual and I understood what she meant. I felt bad for the former Colt leader, the NFL legend and all around good guy – but the football gods would leave no question in the air this year – Seattle was meant to win SuperBowl 48.
The majority of Indianapolis was painted orange for this occasion and the majority of Indianapolis went to bed disappointed – thankful that the halftime show gave them something entertaining to watch. I woke up to a text from Benton reading, “Oof. It’s dead quiet in this city.” I am sure as quiet as Denver might have been Seattle was its counter in celebration. It is hard to deny that Seattle has some of the best fans in the states. The twelve man was loud, like they have been all season, and I am happy for the fans in Seattle as I am sure many are taking today off from work after a good party last night. Relish in the championship Seattle - for I am relishing in the fact that Kathryn and I can go win millions with her physic powers. Football season is over my friends – now I hope Kathryn has a vision of Pacer’s blue and gold reigning as world champions this spring. Live, love and play like there is no tomorrow – thanks for reading!
