All that being said, the question still remains, have the Hoosiers turned the corner? And my answer is yes. But when I say yes to turning a corner I must explain. I do not see the Hoosiers attending the big dance this year (though with their current success an NIT bid is not out of the question). I do not see the Hoosiers winning the Big Ten tourney. Nor do I see a National Title Contender for next year. But what I do see is a competitive team. And right now Hoosiers fans, that should be enough. In years past, the Hoosiers have been down right dreadful to watch in Big Ten play. They were out of their league. Even this season we've seen some of that, this same IU team who has recently beaten both Illinois and Minnesota, has also been destroyed by a weak Iowa squad (9-13, 2-8). The talent has been there, but at times this same Indiana team has just been rough to watch at best. But starting with the Wisconsin game (a 9 point loss) the Hoosier got some hope. The Iowa disaster followed but that lead into the best week the program has had in too long with the 2 big wins and a heartbreaking loss to Michigan State. Tom Crean has the Hoosiers playing well, while their "stars" are hurt no less. And now, they know they can play with the big boys now and thats where it starts. Years ago wins against ranked opponents were expected, not celebrated... and Indiana basketball will get back there, but for now we all can take heart in the fact that we are getting closer to that day. Take heart in the fact we can compete (maybe not always win, but at least compete) in Big Ten games. And take heart in the fact we beat Bruce Weber... because lets face it, we all enjoyed that.
