This past week I had fellow employees in from Ensenada Mexico for work. Each night we took them out for dinner and friendships either started or continued to grow. On Tuesday I plotted with my “tres amigos” from Mexico to go to a local public house and watch the USA – Mexico game for dinner. The group finished up work around 6:30PM and we decided to meet up at the Brockway Pub for dinner and the game around 7PM. Dinner was good and the social atmosphere was fun but then the game started. Conversation went from good to great and an instant connection occurred. As many of you know Mexico looked good in the first half of play against the US in Tuesday match and my co-workers were letting me have it pretty good.
Apparently Tijuana, a city in Mexico, has a soccer team called the Xolo. Many of the employees in Ensenada are big fans of Xolo but according Carlos a Xolo is a type of dog – that was worshiped by the Aztecs. This is the reason why Tijuana soccer team is called the Xolo but my co-workers from Mexico find this funny because the Xolo is nothing short of ugly. As you can see in the picture on the left – some Xolo look strong and elegant (in a way). Then again, if you look at the picture to the right – you can see what they think the dog looks like an ugly hairless rat. This opened up the discussion from sports, to family, to animals to multiple other random topics.
