Alright, since it’s getting late and I have to be up soon to be on the road heading to another coast in this great country of ours, I’ll keep this brief. I’d like to go ahead and wrap up my first round Gold Cup discussion. The US completed the sweep of Group C on Tuesday night with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica…this time not in a blizzard ha! It wasn’t the blow out we had enjoyed recently and it definitely wasn’t our prettiest win of late but a win is a win. There spectacular chances on both sides that were met with equally spectacular saves. However, a great save on one end made the difference in the match. With Johnson in goal for the US, Costa Rica put one on target that was knocked down and eventually snatched down by Johnson who quickly got it up the field and the ball eventually got to none other than Landon Donovan. Donovan promptly chipped it to a streaking Brek Shea on the back side of the defender who one timed it past the Costa Rican keeper for his first career international goal and the 1-0 win. As T.O and I discussed, Donovan may not be at the top of his prime anymore but he is still one of the best at setting up goals. Check out Shea’s goal below.
OK it’s late so that’ll do it for me. Have a great weekend all of you and as always thanks for reading! Oh, don’t forget to check out our Twitter and Facebook pages for pictures of our weekend baseball blitz.
