One side note and positive from the loss to Honduras on Wednesday was that at one point during the game. The TV microphones picked up the American Outlaws (US Soccer supporters) chanting "USA" over the buzz of the horns and chanting of the hometown crowd. It was good to hear that support for soccer in the country is growing, growing enough to make some noise at the road games. Continuing with soccer, this was announced a few weeks ago but with everything going on in the world of sports I haven’t been able to address it. Indianapolis will have a pro soccer team starting next year! The team will be part of the North American Soccer League (NASL) and will be playing their matches at Carroll Stadium at IUPUI. While this is not MLS, it is no secret that MLS is looking to expand, and a good showing of support for our team to-be-named could potentially get our name onto the list of cities that get promoted to MLS.
So if you are interested, on the indyprosoccer.com website you can vote on/submit your idea for team name and team colors. I personally like the idea of blue and gold checkers as it accounts for the colors of the state flag and accounts for the city’s racing history. Even though they will be playing their games in Indianapolis, I think the team should represent the state and not just the city. After all it would be good it would be good to attract fans from outside Indianapolis.
Alright, have a great weekend everyone. Take it easy and enjoy some time off. Thanks for reading and check back next week for another post.
