NCAA basketball has yet to start up so, I'm stuck talking about the NBA. Being an Indiana Boy I have to point out that the Pacers, yes the Pacers, have officially been in first place for now 48 hours. This has to be the first time in close to a decade this has happened. My bold prediction for them this year: 8th place in the Eastern Conference (yes, I think the Pacer WILL actually make the playoffs). I would also like to note, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Heat LOSE their season opener. It did the heart good. On a short aside, I would like to take a minute stick up for Gilbert Arenas. During the NBA preseason, he sat out a game. He faked an injury to give a teammate another opportunity. Mind you, this was NOT the best way to handle this situation, but compared to the other mistakes hes made the last couple years. I would like to applaud him for at least looking out for someone other than himself.
Ok, so the NFL has been interesting to say the least. The Texans and Chiefs have both spent a fair amount of time at the tops of their division, and the Cowboys... well to put it nicely... have been pathetic and are tied for worst team in the NFC. The Colts have really been bitten by the injury bug this year, but to no surprise to this writer. Peyton Manning has effortlessly kept the team good enough to get some wins. This definitely isn't the best Colts team we've seen over the last decade, but this team will be good enough to make the playoffs, then all bets are off. Brett Farve, as always is in the media for one reason or another. He made everyone "nervous" about his return... then has played ugly football all year. He is regrettably hurt and it looks like his consecutive starts streak looks to end next week, but the old man needs to retire and give it up.
There is a reason I have grown VERY fond of the college football, and that reason is quite simply the upsets and the underdogs. After watching 3 straight #1's lose, I was sad to see both Oregon and Auburn win (#1 in different polls). My Boise State Broncos are just outside of the Title Game in the BCS standings. I really, really hate the BCS system but seeing its just never ganna change, I gotta hope and pray the Broncs get some help along the way. Id also like to give props to TCU and Utah both being in the top 10. They play each other for the first ever match of top 10 teams in the Mountain West Conference history. I would also like to congratulate Mizzou and Michigan State for being lesser known school for putting some fear in the hearts of the purists and breaking into the Top 10 the last 2 weeks, too bad you guys couldn't make it last.
Well hopefully you enjoyed the wrap up of whats been goin down outside of the world of baseball, keep your eyes open for more posts on these and other sports happening. Feel free to comment things you'd like me to comment on. Thanks for reading.
