Baseball: Three strikes and I’m out!! The Indianapolis Indians, a team that I love and have partial season tickets to watch, are doing great this year and are sitting atop their division! Unfortunately I have already missed two of the first three games I have tickets for and am in great danger of missing my third. Indianapolis baseball lovers be sure to enjoy the great regular season because the playoffs could be rough again this year. The Pittsburg Pirates, the Indians parent team, are only 1 game behind the Cardinals. Last year the Pirates tried to make a push to the playoffs and typically that means the Triple A club will struggle. This theory was proven last year as the Indians finished with one of the best records in Triple A play but last in the first round – not to mention the Pirates didn’t make the playoffs.
Basketball: Not much needs to be said about the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers are getting ready for the NBA draft and Taylor has provided you with great coverage in his post “NBA Draft Thoughts”. I also provided you with some key off season actions and a look forward to the 2013-14 season in my post “Nothing is Guaranteed”. The big story that has not officially been covered is the fact the Brian Shaw, rightfully so, got a head coaching position with the Denver Nuggets. From all of us at Those Sports Guys, congratulations Brian Shaw and best of luck. I know that I will be a Nuggets fan unless they are playing the Pacers because of Brian Shaw.
Hockey: The Indiana Ice, who have had success over the past several seasons, struggled in their 2012-13 campaign. Only scoring 48 points with a 21-37-6 record the Ice looked average at home and terrible on the road. Despite struggling the team has some strong promising players for the future. It is understandable the Ice had a down year after sending on average 3 players to the NHL draft since 2004. Last year, three ice players went in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th rounds with Cristoval Nieves going to the New York Rangers the earliest out of all the ice players in the draft. The 2013 NHL Entry Draft will take place June 30 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
It seems to always be a busy time in Indianapolis when it comes to sports. Be sure to leave us a comment with other sports stories around Indy or across the Nation so we can address them!! Live, love and play like there is no tomorrow – thanks for reading!!
