Ok, so now that I got that outta the way, lets chat. Would you like me to tell you why you won't be back next year. Quoting one of my all time favorite movies Bull Durham "Because you don't respect yourself, which is your problem. But you don't respect the game, and that's my problem". You made the playoffs out of the weakest division in baseball, but walk around like the damn Yankees. You beat up on the incredibly talented Brewers, Cubs, Astros, and, the new lone holders of the worst team in baseball history, the Pirates. But how'd y'all do against the Cards? oh thats right, you couldn't get the job done. Well they are an experienced team, used to playing high pressure series. Surely you did better against a team like the Padres, they were in a similar boat. Oh wait, you didn't. But you guys atleast handled yourself with grace on your way to the playoffs. Oh, you got beat on your home field by your closest competition and one of the faces on your franchise calls the other team a bunch of... well I'm sure you all remember how that quote goes, and it results in a fight. But hey, you get in the playoffs and you draw the Phils, and Halladay throws one of the greatest games I've ever seen, gotta tip your hat to the guy right? Oh no, your veteran shortstop had to blame the ump for your anemic offensive performance against 'Doc'.
The Reds have to learn the meaning of the word Respect before they will ever be true contenders again. And to do that they need a little class. Quit acting like 5 year olds every time you lose a big game, GROW A PAIR and show up for the game! Have a little heart, want it a little more! Halladay pitched the game of his life against you, come back and win the next one, rather than blame the mean ol' umpire and pout in a corner. Quit worrying about how the Cards pitchers don't like the balls at Great American Park, and spend a little more time figuring out how they come into your park 2 games down in August and make you look bad on your own field with a sweep and a fight that, lets face it, the cardinals won. Learn how to beat good teams consistently, winning a lot of games against the Pirates, Astros, Brewers and Cubs really doesn't say that much about you. Win a game when the pressures on, then well talk. Get a manager that cares about your players. Let people say what they will about Tony LaRussa, but ask Kerry Wood and Mark Prior (if you still remember who he is) how well Dusty Baker takes care of his pitchers, or Barry Bonds how well Baker looks out for his former stars. But what I am telling you all this for, your franchise has won all those championships, you know what you're doing! Oh wait, you haven't. Take a page from teams like the Cards, Yanks, or, if you must, the BoSox, treat the game with respect, win your battles on the scoreboard, and make sure your sphincters don't shrink to much when you play a good team. If you do that I will be glad to support you in your playoff endeavors, but until then, all I have to say to you is "Enjoy your week of post-season baseball, and tell it goodbye for another 15 years"
