Flopping is a crime against basketball and needs to be eradicated. There I said it. I hate it, I think it’s dumb, and I think it’s ruining the NBA. There’s a reason I prefer college basketball ball over the NBA and this is part of it. I know the league now fines people $5k for flopping in the playoffs (they get one strike in the regular season) but that’s not enough. I agree with CBSSports writer Ken Berger’s views on flopping as you can read here and here. I think the penalty should be more and I’m talking suspensions. I don’t want to watch overpaid prima donnas diving all over the court like they’re going for gold at the diving events at the Olympics. It’s ridiculous and they should be ashamed of themselves for trying to trick the officials and in my opinion, ruining the sport. So now that you know my feelings toward flopping you can understand why I was surprised when Lance Stephenson and David West were both fined for flopping in game four. Then I saw the videos and I was irate. Have a look for yourself. Oh and West might have had a better shot at that rebound if he hadn't flopped.

Honestly, the officiating hasn’t been great this series and I didn’t really expect it to be. For example, apparently the laws of physics went out the window the at the end of game four when the ball clearly did not touch David West after Ray Allen hit it but whatever. At the same time I’ll agree the sixth foul on LeBron was soft but an illegal screen is still a foul so fine whatever at least it’s been equally bad. However, it’s obviously not been in the Heat’s favor so everyone in the media is up in arms. An article in the Huffington Post ran a poll on whether or not LBJ’s sixth foul was actually a foul. ESPN SportsCenter ran a bit asking about how concerned the Heat (yes the Heat not the Pacers) should be with officiating going further in series (before game 5). That blew my mind. I almost keeled over in the deli I was at for lunch. Then I saw this tweet by Colin Cowherd and almost had a brain aneurysm. #freelebron?!?!?!? Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?
They make a mockery of the game. Thankfully their flopping has gone down some and I’ll give credit when credit is due…they sure can score but their incessant flopping over the last couple of years is just disrespectful. Let’s have a look at some of the best flops.
Granted, Lance shouldn't have swung his elbows but the whole mouth grab kills me.
I almost threw my tv out my window last year when he got that call.
On that note, as I said earlier, I don’t ever want to see the Pacers stooping to their level. I don’t believe the other saying: “the only way to beat them is to join them.” Not this time, not ever. They don’t need to act like the Miami Heat because they are not bought and paid for by bandwagon fans. You are the Indiana Pacers, you represent the state that the Miami fans (and formerly Knicks fans) like to take cheap shots at. Indiana is synonymous with basketball and you guys have bought into the team system and playing physical basketball and you defy odds and win with it. You don’t need to flop or act like prima donnas. All you need to do is go out there and play your game and one day you will prove to the world that a small market team that plays “real” basketball can win it all. Let’s go out there tomorrow and send it back to Miami for game seven. Play you hearts out men; we’re with you all the way. Leave it all on the court and BEAT THE HEAT!!!!
Have a great weekend everyone. For all of you in Indianapolis, I want to join me in cheering so loud on Saturday night that we cause avalanches all the way out here in the Rockies. The Pacers can do this. Thanks for reading and enjoy the weekend! GO PACERS!
