Those Sports Guys, including myself, have spoken at nausea about some of the issues the Pacers have been facing during the second half of the season. I don’t need to review those by any means but I believe that back in late February I wrote an article “If it ain’t (isn’t) broke, don’t fix it” and I believe some of the moves we made after the start of the new year may have ruined the Pacers chances for a NBA championship this year. Back in February I wrote…
“Bird is motivated to win a championship this year and in less than a quiet fashion has put all of his chips forward. I completely agree with Bird that it is 2013-2014 championship or bust this year for the Pacers but are these “big” moves helping or hurting the Pacers? In all honesty only time will tell but I fear that so many moves, later in the season, could through a small wrench into the chemistry of the team. When you think of the Pacers you think of a fundamentally sound, defensive, cohesive team. If you take away the chemistry the rest will fall apart. In order to play fundamentally sound basketball you have to trust your teammates. Will this team be able to bond with teammates like Turner, Allen and Bynum? Again, only time will tell but if you are going for a championship in 2014 you are running a rapid and risky experiment.”
There could be a laundry list of items that are hindering the Pacers but I think the biggest one is team chemistry as I discussed in my previous post referenced in the above quote. The question will be if the Pacers can “flip the switch” and get back on track because if they don’t the Hawks will advance and the Pacers will be shaking their head and sitting on the bench with long faces. Live, love and play like there is no tomorrow – thanks for reading!
