I was going to complain about how about the Cubs suck, boy are they terrible, but in the wake of Monday’s terrorist attacks at the Boston Marathon, nothing else matters. Once again America was rocked to its core by unspeakable acts of terror and once again America rose again stronger than ever. As I watched people like Craig Ferguson (lots of bleeped out words), Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert blast these terrorists for their cowardly acts as the story unfolded I was left with one thought. Our sports remain as reminders of better times…of times that once were good and can be again. They provide a distraction, if only a momentary one, from all of the horrors going on around us. It’s things like Sweet Caroline sung at Yankee Stadium, or a Mike Piazza home run after 9/11, or a hospital visit from Rockies players after the Aurora theater shooting, or just a game happening, that reminds us that we’re still here and that we won’t back down. Of course not all of us are here and our hearts go out to the victims and the families of the victims of these terrible tragedies. The games go on because they must go on as we must go on. We grieve with the victims and their families and we don’t forget them, but if we don’t go on then evil wins. So hold those closest to you tight and be thankful for all you have. Together we stand, united and strong, and never willing to back down in the face of evil. This week we are all Boston Strong.
