In every sport you see it. Whether its a football or basketball team the has a high ratio of points off of turnovers, a baseball team that takes advantage of an error, or a soccer team that puts the ball in the back of the net on a set piece. Good teams take advantage of these mistakes and make them count. Way back when I was playing high school baseball, my coach instilled in us the mentality when an error was made we should "make that hurt". The idea behind the saying was that we not let them off the hook for that mistake.
This was one of the many trademarks of Peyton Manning while he was with the Colts. Every chance he got to make a penalty or turnover costly... it never failed that he was able to do it. Every time a team tried to make a late substitution, it was an automatic 5 yards because Manning saw it and took advantage by quickly getting a play off.
