The baseball playoffs have been anything but conventional this year and may I be the first to one to say "What was I thinking!" It is never a good idea to pick against your own team. New York Yankees, I am sincerely sorry. Despite being down two games down to the Rangers until last night, I am going to predict the Yankees will make it to the world series and defeat the Phillies, for the second year in a row. Cliff Lee, you are an amazing pitcher but you can't pitch every game and the Rangers don't have enough depth to beat the Yanks. The Giants have a two game advantage over the Phillies right now, but again, experience and depth will lead the Phillies back to the series. I could very easily being eating my words by the end of the week because both the Giants and Rangers are going into the next couple of games on a hot streak, but I have to go against my instinct of picking by the numbers and stick by my team.
The bottom line: The Yankees will win the series in seven games.
Unfortunately I am not very educated in the world of college football. All I know is that the BCS ranking system has some serious flaws and it is not right that an undefeated team is ranked worst then a team with two losses (which you all know has happened many times over the years to teams like Boise State and Hawaii). At any rate it was big news that Alabama lost and is no longer ranked #1. This loss, no matter what sports analyst claim, was not expected. It is easy to pick against the best team every week because if you are wrong then nobody thinks twice because they are suppose to win. If you pick against the best team and they do lose then you look like a genius, even though the odds are in your favor.
As for the National Football League the season has started and there are some unexpected teams at the top of their divisions. A prime example are the Houston Texans, standing with a 4-2 and winning against arch rivals the Indianapolis Colts. Another shocker atop their division is the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have displayed a strong defense and an offense that can get the job done behind Matt Cassel. Here is the problem with the standings right now...they don't matter and in the end will shape up to look similar to last year.
The Bottom Line: The Jets will crumble like last year allowing the Patriots control of the AFC North. The Colts win the AFC South, and the Chargers always start the season slow and will overtake the Chiefs. Do those teams in the playoffs sound familiar? Of course they do!!
I have to admit it has been a rough start to the season for my beloved Buffalo Sabres but that doesn't mean that hockey is not producing a good product. The Chicago Blackhawks are looking like the Stanley Cup team of last year and some teams have started stronger then expected like the Tampa Bay Lighting and New York Islanders. This has made for an interesting first two weeks of hockey. Not to mention the Cancuck's trying to beat up the Minnesota fans. Rick Rypien went after a Wild fan after being in a fight on the ice. It was a classic Ron Artest moment, the only thing missing was the flying beer.
The bottom line: The season has just begun but there will be many interesting story lines, and don't count my Sabres out just yet!
